Separation

The fluid coming out of the well head is a mixture which can consist of Oil, Gas, Condensate, Water and Sediment. The first step in processing is a separation of the mixture into individual streams. Pyramid E&C provides conventional as well as high-efficiency separation solutions.

Conventional Separation

Achieved by mechanical internals, e.g. half-pipe inlet distributor, vane-type inlet distributor, baffles, coalescer plate pack, demister. The separation facility may consist of a single stage or multiple stages, depending upon processing requirements. The internals are designed to suit the fluid properties and the gas oil ratio.

High-Efficiency Separation

Achieved by electrostatic coalescers, these devices can reduce the equipment size compared to conventional separators. The separator internals help break emulsions, and enable separation at a lower temperature thus reducing energy costs and increasing the economic return.

Heavy Oil Separation

Heavy oil separation can use all of the techniques described in conventional and high-efficiency separation, along with additional internals such as cyclonic inlet devices. Pyramid E&C recommends obtaining data on oil viscosity versus temperature as simulation data can be unreliable. Heavy oil separation requires higher residence time. The cyclonic inlet devices use the momentum of the fluid entering the vessel to break foam and separate oil and gas.
